The acetyl derivative of L-carnitine. Acetyl-L-carnitine is involved in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fats, as well as the conversion of fats into energy. Acetyl-L-carnitine crosses the blood brain barrier more readily than L-carnitine.
